Mike's Grocery

This building holds significance in African American history.  Owned by Mike and Emma Stephens, an African American couple, the building housed 'Mike's Grocery' store in Spokane. The business dates back to 1963 and operated until 1989, it catered to the African American community. After Mike's passing in 1986, his family continued running the store. However, the construction of a freeway next to the shop severely impacted their business and the entire neighborhood, leading to the displacement of many Black residents.
